July 2 - Day Hike in the White Pine Canyon
Today we decided to hike White Pine Canyon. You start off the same way as to Red Pine, but about a mile up there is a fork and you take the trail into White Pine. The total hike to the lake at the top is 4 1/4 miles. We made it to about .5 miles from the lake. There was too much snow on very steep slopes for us amateur snow hikers to tackle to get to the top. Other hikers, however, did make it with their ski poles to assist them.
Here are photos of our excellent hike and the beautiful scenery. You can see when you get to the snow photos how steep the slopes are. We took one photo of another hiker sliding down on his backside (we emailed him the photo!). We plan to try to get all the way to the lake later in the summer when the snow is melted.
The entire hike took us about 7 hours.
